    Skorge
    (Skorge)

    Gears of War 2 will be released on November 7th. Here is round up of what to expect:

    * graphical upgrades (Wikipedia)
    * physics engine improvements (Kotaku video)
    * play as a Skorge in multiplayer (dual chainsaw not usable)
    * 10 players in multiplayer
    * at least 3 multiplayer modes: “Guardian” is essentially a modified version of “Assassination” from the original Gears of War, but allows players to continue fighting after the leader has been killed, but losing the ability to respawn. “Wingman” splits all ten players into five teams of two, where both members of a team play as the same character. “Submission,” formerly known as “Meat Flag,” is a version of capture the flag in which players attempt to “down” an enemy controlled by the game’s AI and move its body to their team’s base to earn points.
    * bots will be available in multiplayer
    * A new co-op game mode was confirmed during Microsoft’s E3 2008 press conference; called “Horde,” this mode allows up to five players to fight off waves of attacking Locust together. Horde Mode will not feature bot support as in competitive multiplayer, and can be played alone. The Locust attack in waves of multiple enemies which become more difficult as players progress.
    * the new Battle Cam allows players to pan around a map as the camera focuses on areas of intense fighting, and the Ghost Cam allows a player to roam freely around a map. A photo mode will also be featured, with each photo taken by a player rated on the amount of action in the shot.
    * no plans to bring GoW2 to the PC
    * to get an achievement which requires 500 kills with a weapon or 500 headshots, only the first kill or headshot made by a player in a given multplayer match will count towards the achievement.
    * new characters introduced in campaign mode
    * players will be able to fight the large Brumaks
    * dueling chainsaw battles
    * us downed enemies as shields
    * players who have been injured can crawl as a final desperate attempt at life
    * the level of blood and gore will also be increased, for example, when the player is close to death, wherever he moves there will be trails of blood behind him
    * more “fatality” moves added
    * In Co-op Players can play on different difficulties in the same game
    * some of the Xbox Live achievements can be completed through both play in single player and multiplayer mode
    * bigger and badder enemies than the Brumak are planned
    * you’ll be able to ride and pilot a Brumak
    * the collection of COG tags has been expanded to include the collection of story-based items such as personal letters and medical records, and a “war journal” will track which collectibles have been found and where missing ones can be located.
    * all grenades can now be used as mines by placing them on walls or floors, and will detonate when approached by enemies
    * players can now be knocked over by the concussive force of a nearby detonating grenade
    * Amazon will deliver this game to your door the day of release (pre-order the game here)

    What do you think of these changes and features? What are you expectations for this game?

  • Halo 3 Mythic Walkthrough

    HBO has a long history of helping fans get through the toughest parts of Halo Campaign play – Asmodeus wrote up a Legendary Walkthrough of Halo, and Mike Miller put together a much-lauded guide that could get you through Halo 2 on Legendary. For Halo 3, Daniel Morris (AKA Tyrant) has upped the ante – not content with a guide for muddling through on plain old Legendary, he’s built a Mythic Walkthrough – Solo, Legendary, All Skulls On. This is Halo 3 at its most difficult – Legendary difficulty, using 9 gold skulls, 4 silver ones (and don’t think the silver ones are all sweetness and light – the Blind skull, for example, removes your HUD, meaning you have no easy access to health or weapon status, and you have no reticule for targeting). Just showing a runthrough, though, would be somewhat useless, from the standpoint of teaching you useful skills – if that’s all you want, you should swing by High Speed Halo and check out the SLASO runs. No, what Tyrant gives you is much, much more useful – it’s a guide you can follow that will get most of us actually THROUGH THE GAME on this difficulty. There are several pages of general tips, and then a guide for each specific level. We’ll be releasing one level per week – there are a lot of video clips that go with each level, and we want to make sure we have the bandwidth to support everyone who wants to try this. First up – Sierra 117. Read the text, watch the video clips (download them, so you can refer to them during your run)… and you’re well on your way to finishing Halo at its most challenging!(Louis Wu 15:25:40 UTC)

  • RvB Reconstruction 16

    Red vs Blue: Reconstruction Chapter 16 is now live – both the free public version and the extended cut for sponsors. Things are getting a little crazy; Washington does a lot of explaining, and while we won’t post any spoilers, if you’ve watched it and are trying to figure out what the implications are, there’s a lively discussion going on on our forum. (Do NOT read it before you watch – there are spoilers in almost every post.)(Louis Wu 13:18:46 UTC)

  • The Positive Side of Gaming

    XerxdeeJ stopped by early this morning to announce new content at Tied the Leader – it’s a look at a recent study of gaming and American youth, putting the findings into perspective that the Halo community can appreciate. An interesting read! (Louis Wu 13:18:29 UTC)

  • RRTU Scorpion Group

    Tony ‘ubald’ Marcotte sent word that he’s finished another render. This one is entitled ‘RRTU Scorpion Group‘ – that’s not a team I’d mess with! Check it out – and look through his whole gallery if you haven’t seen the rest of his stuff! (Louis Wu 13:18:03 UTC)

  • Hot and Fresh? Ew.

    Hawty McBloggy ran across a Cafe Press shirt inspired by a Newgrounds Halo Flash vid – and it tickled her fancy. I’m pretty sure I’d never actually WEAR it… but it’s funny.(Louis Wu 13:17:30 UTC)

  • She has strange dreams.

    That woman… she’s gonna be the death of me. A risqué title for a new article over at Hawty McBloggy’s leads to a discussion about a fan-made grenade that started life as a Christmas ornament. This somehow got her to dreams of sticky blue balls – oh, man. Go read.(Louis Wu 20:31:17 UTC)
