Many of you participated in our “14 Day – Buy and Play” program, a special offer that granted early access to six Specializations. As part of that program, we are providing complimentary access to the Crimson Map Pack for a limited time (through Tuesday, December 18 at 9am UTC/GMT). At that time, the complimentary limited access to the Crimson Map Pack will close, and “14 Day – Buy and Play” program participants will no longer be able to access the content for online play (please note anybody who has already purchased the Crimson Map Pack or owns the Halo 4 Map Pass or Limited Edition will not be impacted and will continue to have access to the content after the complimentary access period ends).
If you enjoy the new maps and would like to continue playing on them after that date, the Crimson Map Pack can be purchased through the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 800 MS Points, or via purchase of the War Games Map Pass. We hope you’re enjoying the special Crimson Map Pack preview, and we’ll see you on the (new!) virtual battlefields.

Every Monday, we feature a community member who does one or more of the following things: routinely goes above and beyond for their fellow forum members, is a positive and active member of the community, and/or sends me mass amounts of cat pictures. This week our Community Member of the Week is II SHABUTIE II. Read a little more about him below, then hit his profile to learn more about what he finds to be music to his robotic ears!

Gamertag: II SHABUTIE II.
Origin of Gamertag: It was Coheed and Cambria’s original band name.
Current clan/community: Waypoint and Forgehub. There are a few others but I mainly just spend my time on the Waypoint forums.
Halo game(s) you are currently playing: Halo 4, Reach and occasionally Halo 2 with my brother and his friends.
Favorite map, game type and playlist: Containment, Fiesta, and Multi-team.
Least favorite map, game type and playlist: The Pit, VIP, and Invasion.
Preferred control scheme: Recon and Default.
Halo playing style (offense, defense, sniper, driver, etc.): I’m pretty big on driving vehicles and running flags. There is no better rush in Halo than a beautiful flag cap.
Favorite character: I like all the Prophets. They are the reason that the Halo conflict even exists.
Favorite Halo book: I love the audiobook for Primordium. I’m not a big reader and Tim Dadabo did a great job when it came to keeping my attention.
Favorite Halo quote: “I need a weapon.” Simple yet to the point.
Anything else we should know? I love you all like brothers and sisters. Sometimes I argue with some of you but in the end we all have the same thing in common… We all are here because we love Halo. 🙂

Spike’s Video Game Awards were last night – you can watch the entire 2-hour extravaganza on their website now. If your time is limited, here’s the key stuff: you can watch the new Spartan Ops trailer by starting at around 1:42:30 (if you care about the intro, or 1:43:10 if you don’t). You can also watch it on Kotaku, if you’d rather. Other timestamps worth checking out: 13:45, 38:30. (If you need to save time, we’ve archived these two bits here and here.) In terms of awards, Halo 4 took home Best Xbox 360 Game and Best Graphics. Not too shabby!
Editor’s note: We’ll be releasing a special version of the Spartan Ops trailer seen on the VGAs Sunday night here on Halo Waypoint. Look for it around 8PM PT!

We asked and you answered: Which of these titles did you prefer? Halo 4 or Call of Duty: Black Ops 2? Here are the results!

When Globe made a special Halo edition of their Liberty technical skate sneaker, it sold out almost immediately. Just like the Spartans themselves, we couldn’t let such a good thing die. A second wave of shoes were produced and they’re shipping to us in January. We’re releasing the first batch of this new inventory for pre-sale on the Halo Waypoint Store today, so get yours before they’re gone again!
