Stoking the coals
BBC News takes a look at fan reaction to recent Halo-related announcements; it’s a nice overview of the situation as it stands. (I do have to question their choice of sources, though…) Thanks to hminn for the heads-up.(Louis Wu 13:11:06 UTC)

Halo Wars Central Goes Live
The fan community wasted no time setting up new outlets for the newest Halo content – Halo Wars Central went live recently, and is now hosting an art contest (though it doesn’t look like there are any prizes at stake here, besides bragging rights). Get involved!(Louis Wu 13:05:28 UTC)

Wu On The Beeb
The buzz has died down a bit, but there are still a few sites catching up with the X06 Halo Wars bombshell. The latest is the BBC’s site, which quoted Bungie’s Brian “SketchFactor” Jarrard as well as HBO’s own fansite editor, Claude “Louis Wu” Errera.
As for why a Halo RTS by Ensemble, Sketch put it nicely:
“Halo started as an RTS. Would the Bungie team love to do one themselves? Possibly.
“We are not focused on that. We’ve got a lot of work to do on Halo 3 and a trilogy to finish.”
As for Wu, he was cautiously optimistic. Or optimistically cautious, depending:
“The entire team has been working on Halo games since 1998 and they are probably tired of it. But there are still stories to tell.”
I suppose if one works on Halo games long enough, Pimps at Sea starts to look like a really good idea.

Ensemble Looking For Console, Xbox Live Developers
Indie in the Halo Wars forum pointed out some listings from the jobs page at Ensemble Studios. What he found particularly interesting were two items for MMO environmental and concept artists; what I find interesting are the console programmer and Xbox Live developer positions.
Ensemble hasn’t really said a word yet about the features of Halo Wars, but it seems logical to conclude they’d at least be trying for multiplayer on Xbox Live. If not… what’s the point, really?

EGM Pimps Halo Revelations In Upcoming Issue
1Up is reporting that EGM’s issue #210, presumably the December 2006 issue if it will hit newsstands on November 14th as they claim, will feature Halo 3 in a big way. The current issue has a teaser for that feature.

Spartan Group OMG.
Since last week’s announcement about Halo Wars, our forum has been rife with discussion about what this might mean for fans down the road – the usual cries of ‘sellout!’ and ‘doom, despair’ have been flying for days. Folks are even annoyed by the cheesiness of the final line of the Halo Wars trailer, and basing predictions about the game itself on this annoyance. Stuntmutt, as usual, cuts through the words and delivers a pithy summary – check out today’s One One Se7en.(Louis Wu 16:24:25 UTC)

Dropshock Episode 24
Dropshock Episode 24 has been released – as usual, it’s lewd and crude. Minimal Halo content these days – but they’ve got a brand-new website, so there you go. 1:14 long, 34 mb. Thanks, Adam Russell.(Louis Wu 16:02:37 UTC)
