Retro City Rampage shooting for December on WiiWare, 'in talks' for XBLA and PSN

2010-09-04 03:45:00 by Xbox360Fanboy
While demoing Retro City Rampage, one of the PAX 10, its creator Brian Provinciano revealed to Joystiq that the game would likely launch in December of this year. Up until now, all we had was a tentative Q4 2010 window -- Provinciano nailed the last month of the year as being an optimal time to subject the world to his experiment at seeing how many inside jokes he could fit into a single game.

WiiWare is currently the only platform, though Provinciano noted that he was currently "in talks" with Microsoft on bringing the game to XBLA. PSN was also on the table, he offered. A PC version would be out of the cards for "at least a year."

Provinciano began the game as Project Grand Theftendo, where he sought to create an 8-bit version of Grand Theft Auto 3 that ran on the NES.

Swarm gameplay trailer plays follow the leader

2010-09-04 02:30:00 by Xbox360Fanboy
While the first trailer for Hothead's Swarm didn't feature any gameplay, it did show off the many, many ways to kill the game's main characters -- those little blue ... things. We're feeling that Lemmings vibe again in this new PAX trailer, which introduces the first gameplay footage.

All those gruesome deaths? Just as comically effective in game. Head past the break to see for yourself.

Dungeon Siege 3 gameplay footage lays siege to your eyes

2010-09-04 02:00:00 by Xbox360Fanboy
We got a first look at Obsidian's upcoming third Dungeon Siege title back at E3 -- and even caught a glimpse of its CGI teaser shortly thereafter -- but, up until now, we hadn't been able to show it to you in motion. Y'know, actual gameplay. That's just what you'll find after the break.

As for the video's content, we're compelled to relay that it looks awfully JRPG-influenced to us, in addition to being extremely lush and heavy on the flowing bits of fabric on characters' costumes. Other than that, well, have you seen Torchlight or Diablo? If the answer's "yes," you've got a good idea of what to expect.

We take warning screens very seriously. That's why we've preemptively removed Hinkle from our friends list. We wouldn't wanna risk any "hard feelings" if he went and wrecked our Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit records. It's better this way, Dave.

Gearbox Confirmed on Duke Nukem Forever Development

2010-09-03 17:42:00 by 1UP

Duke Nukem

Amid swirling rumors of a PAX reveal, Gearbox has finally confirmed that they've taken the reins on Duke Nukem Forever. Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford delivered the news today, just as word hit the Wall Street Journal and eager gamers lined up at PAX to try the game for themselves. A live stream from 2K is still (as of now) showing off footage of the hands-on players.

"The approach and investment and process at 3d Realms didn't quite make it and it cracked in the end," said Pitchford in the WSJ interview. "With Gearbox Software we brought all of those pieces together. It's the game it was meant to be." The report claims the game is expected to ship in 2010, and Pitchford says it's in the "polishing" stage. But they're still working on a launch plan so he's hesitant to commit to a date.

Flo Rida, Soulja Boy, and Others Record Simlish Songs for The Sims 3

2010-09-03 16:35:00 by 1UP

The Sims 3

Over three dozen musical artists are re-recording some of their current and upcoming songs for inclusion in The Sims 3 on consoles and the latest Sims 3 PC expansion pack, Late Night. They're re-recording their songs because they won't be sung in English, but in the Sims' language of Simlish.

A press release making the announcement quotes a number of the artists, many of which point out that they had fun but also found it challenging or weird to sing in Simlish. "Singing in Simlish was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but it was a blast!" said Travie McCoy. Flo Rida said of his decision to contribute to the game, "I'm always trying to find new ways to reach different audiences with my music and The Sims 3 was a perfect way."

The console versions of The Sims 3 will be released on October 26, the same day the Late Night expansion will be made available to owners of the PC version of The Sims 3.

Crackdown 2 DLC Includes Game-Breaking Bugs

2010-09-03 15:57:00 by 1UP

Crackdown 2

Crackdown 2 players have reported major issues with the recently released Toy Box DLC. According to posts on the official Ruffian Games forums (spotted by Shacknews), both the free and paid versions of the add-on are affected by bugs.

Upon acquiring the DLC, some players note that the game stalls on the title screen. Others report that unlocking certain Achievements can lead to the Achievement voiceovers repeating on an infinite loop -- eventually dragging the framerate down to an unplayable state.

Ruffian co-founder Gaz Liddon chimed in on the forum thread with an acknowledgement of the bugs, as well as offering some band-aid fixes while the devs work on a real solution. "We have confirmation of what the issue is now. The paid part of the DLC was incorrectly configured when mastered," reads his statement.

Mafia II "Off to a Great Start," Expected to be Profitable

2010-09-03 15:42:00 by 1UP

Mafia II

Following comments made by Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter suggesting that Mafia II was unlikely to be profitable, Take-Two has come out and stated that it not only expects the game to be profitable, but that it's "off to a great start."

"Mafia II's average Metacritic score of 74 is well below expectations, and consumer interest appears to be waning, as the game's position has dropped in many best-seller lists in its first week," Pachter recently said (via Gamasutra). "With six years in development, we believe the game is unlikely to achieve profitability."

Gamasutra reports Take-Two CEO Ben Feder countered such claims during an investors call, saying, "We're very proud of the game." He later said, "Based upon the initial launch, we expect this to be another profitable title for Take-Two." Sales figures have yet to be released, though the release of NPD sales figures for August later this month should give us some indication of how well Mafia II sold. Its release so late in the month (August 24 in North America) could hurt its chances to rank highly, however, especially with Madden topping sales charts, according to EA.

Halo: Reach Preview

2010-09-03 14:45:00 by PlanetXBox360
Love it or hate it, the Halo franchise is, for lack of a better word, one of the main pinnacles of first-person shooting gameplay, across the board. It's easy to point out that the series would probably struggle on the PC, that nothing about it is particularly realistic, or that while first person shooting gameplay has progressed into the realm of role playing games, team-based zombie killing, plot-based multiplayer, Halo has largely ignored most of those gimmicks.

Interview: Capcom's Keiji Inafune

2010-09-03 14:00:00 by Eurogamer

"The Japanese are stuck in a time warp."

All Capcom games exist because Keiji Inafune said yes. As head of global research and development at the Japanese powerhouse, Inafune's the man responsible for approving game ideas from his own producers. A case in point: the recently announced Street Fighter X Tekken is in production because producer Yoshinori Ono convinced Inafune that it would be worthwhile. Now that Inafune's just about finished his job as producer of Dead Rising 2, the tongue-in-cheek zombie chew-'em-up due out on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 later this month, you'd think he'd be on top of the world. He is not. The state of the Japanese game industry is getting him down. Things are not going well in the Land of the Rising Sun, and Inafune refuses, unlike others in his homeland, to ignore the situation. Here, in an interview with Eurogamer, he goes deep into Japan's problems, and reveals his hope that Dead Rising 2 will wake up a few of his compatriots.

PAX Prime weekend (and how you can win a Halo Console)

2010-09-02 16:05:00 by Major Nelson

As we head into PAX Prime this weekend in Seattle, I’d like to point out some things to add to your long TO DO list. We’ve got a whole team of people headed to to the event and we have so much stuff for you to see, we needed four booths show it all off:

Booth 412 (in the same area as the Xbox booth from last year) we’ll have Halo: Reach, Fable III and Gears of War 3.

Booth 670  We’ll be showing off new tiles for Xbox LIVE Arcade, Games for Windows and Windows Phone 7

Booth 682  Stop by and try out Kinect. We’ll have Kinect Adventures, Kinect Joyride, Kinect Sports and more

Booth 822  Halo: Reach

While you are planning what sessions to attend over the three-days, allow me to shamelessly plug one that has the potential be slightly entertaining: Join me, e, lollip0p and Stepto Sunday morning at 10:30am as we record the show live in front of a studio audience at the luxurious Benaroya Hall. I know it’s an early session, but we’ll try to make it worth your while; in addition to being able to observe the dysfunction for yourself, we have some cool prizes to give away including a few of the just announced controllers and one lucky attendee will walk away with the very first Xbox 360 Limited Edition Halo: Reach Console.

See you this weekend!
