Halo Community Member Spotlight: Dust Storm

June 30th, 2014

Every other Monday, we feature an individual who is a positive and active member of the Halo community. This week the spotlight turns to Dust Storm!

Question: What’s your gamertag and its origin?

Answer: My current gamertag is POD Dust Storm, which has been through several iterations since I first made it, but it all revolves around just the name "Dust Storm." I wanted something that somewhat resembled my actual name and after thinking for a couple of minutes, I thought Dust Storm seemed liked a good fit.

Q: Tell us about the first time you played Halo.

A: The absolute first time I played Halo is hard to recall since I wasn't invested into gaming at the time. It was with a good friend of mine and we played a few custom matches and online a couple of times. My first time actually invested in the franchise would be with Halo: CE for PC. My parents bought me a laptop for university for my birthday in 2007 and I bought a copy of Halo: CE for PC just a couple months before. I would regularly play into the night before I went to sleep.

343 Industries’ announcement of the Master Chief Collection along with the additional content to come with it was met with great enthusiasm, but also many questions. Many of the questions have been answered in interviews, but some have been unanswered or are not ready to be answered. We had the opportunity to sit down with Andy “Bravo” Dudynsky, Community Manager for 343 Industries and ask him some of the unanswered questions and clarify a few other answers we’ve received already. Some of the info in the show has been covered since this interview was recorded, but there are still a few tid-bits you may have not heard yet.

Spartan Assault Music – Loopable

June 29th, 2014
Very cool - Bizargh stopped by to let our forum know that he'd been playing around with the Spartan Assault music files, and created in-game edits of them that can be used as seamless loops - pretty awesome! The full collection is pretty large, but there are some YouTube versions you can listen to to see what you're getting into. Check it out! (Louis Wu 22:02:25 UTC)

Halo Scale Comparison – Now Updated with Halo 4 Objects

June 28th, 2014
Back in 2005, Stephen Loftus created a Scale Comparison in Halo article - showing you how various structures and vehicles and characters fit together, size-wise. Over the years, he's improved this project, adding new items from later games and slotting them into the existing structure. He's done this again, and it's a HUGE advance; at the time of the last update (January 2013), there were 27 pages of images. Now there are almost 50. Swing by and dive in - it's fascinating! (If you've explored the collection before, you'll want to scroll down to the bottom of the main page - click on the Ark to get started on the cascading scale pages. That's where all the goodies are hiding.)(Louis Wu 21:46:05 UTC)

Summer Games Done Quick – Full Halo Run Now Archived

June 28th, 2014
If you, like me, allowed goatrope's speedrun of Halo PC, performed for charity a couple of days ago, to pass you by without tuning in, shame on you! (And on me!) However, Ibeechu stopped by with links to rectify the problem. You can still donate (SGDQ is still running!), or you can just jump over to YouTube and watch goat go. It's a really, really enjoyable experience; goatrope does an amazing job of commentating as he's running, and STILL manages to focus on the tricks he's performing to shave time off. He didn't beat the world record for a the full game Legendary run (he set that himself a few weeks ago), but he still went sub-2-hours for the full run... amazing! (Ibeechu also put together a highlights reel, which is funny but not really a highlight reel.) (Louis Wu 21:40:40 UTC)

Many questions have risen since the announcement of the Master Chief Collection at E3 and in last week’s Halo Bulletin, and Bravo does his best to answer as many as possible.  There still remains questions to be answered and we’ll undoubtedly find out more when they head to RTX.  According to the latest Halo Bulletin, 343 will have a booth and panel at RTX, Halo 2 playable on original Xboxes in CRT TVs where you can play against pros and a campaign demo presentation you can line up to watch.  We will also be there so make sure you come by and say, “Hi!” Escalation, Issue 7 is out and a new novel has been announced.  Halo: Broken Circle covers the Great Schism and will release a week before the Master Chief Collection.  Our thread of the week is the Halo 5 Beta topic started by forum member PTBRULES.  Special thanks to Biowolf for joining us for the show this week.
